Tour of Old Potomac & Wine Tasting

We will meet in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel. Cars will be provided. We will carpool.?

1. 11:00-11-15:? one of the first public schools in Montgomery County. We start our journey at the?Potomac Methodist Church on Falls Road not far from the crossroads of Potomac Village. In?1761, Rev. James Hunt conducted Presbyterian services in ?Captain John?s Meeting House? *. In?1864, the site reorganized as a Methodist church. The Potomac Chapel School served as the local?elementary school.??

2. 12:00-12:45: Our second stop takes us out River Road to the historic one room Seneca School?House with Knight Kiplinger and Julie Shapiro. Knight will share local history. After we?ll drive by?Montevideo, built in 1830 by Martha Washington?s grandson, John Parke Custis Peter. The?Kiplinger family restored the estate in the 1960?s and is the current location of the Potomac?Hunt.?

3. 1:00: Rockland?s Farm Winery: barbeque lunch/snacks/and winetasting at Rockland?s on?Montevideo Road. Buy your own lunch.

4. 2:00-2:30: Down memory lane to Riley?s Lock to the C&O Canal and the Seneca Stone Mill.?Here we?ll see where red sandstone was quarried and loaded on canal boats taken to?Washington, most notably used in the original Smithsonian Castle.?

5. 3:00 Return by way of Toby Town, Travilah, and stopping to see the Glenstone Museum (the?former location of Potomac Hunt).

6. Return to the hotel by 4:00.

Only those who purchased Reunion Tickets are eligible to go on the tour. We will provide cars to carpool. Meet in the Hilton lobby.
