Gretchen Ashworth Brumback - died in 1997 of pulmonary embolism in Colorado where she lived on a ranch with her family.

Comments:
Gretchen was the first friend I made when I moved to Potomac in 1957. We both shared a love for horses. I lost track of her after high school but I know she and her family lived in Colorado. Her pastime was raising and showing horses.

Robert (Rob) Baker - died Thursday, May 31, 2007.
Rob died of complications stemming from his battle with cancer. Survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters Saura & Hannah, son Amos, grandchildren, Adreian and Natalie. (click for obituary).

Comments:
The Float Trip Boys were blessed to have spent a week on the river with
Robbie the year before his death. He is a true friend and will live
in our hearts and memories forever.

Bob had just been elected president of his class at St. Andrews college, was a passenger coming back to his dorm, and the car flipped on campus killing him instantly...he is greatly missed each day. -- Laura Baxer (sister)

Lloyd Courembis: It is reported - not verified - that Lloyd died while in Paris awhile back. Date and cause unknown. Lloyd was a senior transfer student.

Lynda Cowan: Died August 26, 2012. Lynda had been fighting several cronic health issues and was in constant pain. Survived by her husband, Joel and her children.

James (Jim) DeAtley: Died July 21, 2001 of pancreatic cancer.

Comments:
My brother, Jim lived a wonderful life, though cut short by cancer.

He left a legacy of two fantastic children. Son, Tavish is a junior at George Washington University, and daughter, Tavia is a sophomore at Jim's alma mater, Baylor University. Jim's wife continues to live and work in San Antonio, Texas. 

Jim had a prolific legal career with the Department of Justice, and touched many individuals in a positive way. One of the exceptional ones, he is dearly missed.

John Fairchild: Died in a car crash in 1994. John served in the Vietnam war where he was wounded.

Robert (Bob) Filsinger: Date and cause of death unkown. Listed as deceased in the 1988 reunion book.
Stu Harmon: Stu died on Oct. 5, 2010. Stu had a long battle with Leukemia.After a bone marrow transplant did not provide the hopeful results he and his wife prayed for, Stu passed away Oct. 5, 2010. 
Richard Harris: Richard died of a heart attack while shoveling snow. Year unknown.

Phil Jehle passed away Mon. June 22, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was a WCHS 1968 graduate who went on to teach music for 36 years in the Montgomery County Public School system. Phil retired recently and he and his family moved to Bethany Beach area (Ocean View, DE). He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlene and their daughter, Kristin.

James (Jim) Timothy Kirch: died Februay 1994 from a rare liver disease - Sclerosing Colingitis - a sclerosing of the bile duct leading to liver failure. Jim was diagnosed in 1984. The disease carries a life expectancy of 10 years.

Comments:
One of the original float trip boys. Married to Jane Stickney from Massachussets in 1974? Son Jeremy and daughter Jessie (who is now a mom herself) Jim drew a low lottery number and enlisted in the USN. They treated him well as he struggled in his final year. Good man. Very, very good friend. He is with the Lord.

Mary Leffler Walker died September 19, 2009 in Colorado after a long, scrappy struggle with breast cancer. She was 58.

Lynn Counselman McIntosh - died Saturday, January 10, 2009 after an illness of one year. Lynn was married 34 years to Claude McIntosh, Sr. and had 3 sons and 5 grandchildren. Lynn graduated from Frostburg State Teachers College and was a homemaker and daycare teacher at Children's Center in Monrovia. She was an avid horseback rider and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

I was aware that Bruce died suddenly at Shady Grove Hospital and went to his Memorial Service in Bethesda. The Church was packed and it was apparent how many friends he had from all stages of his life. His wife went to Churchill and was in the Class of '70. I think Bruce would have enjoyed joining us at the reunion.

Steve Morningstar: Died in a car accident our senior year of high school.
Robert Oxenham: Rob died April 17, 1997. It was one day before his 46th birthday. He died from colon cancer, which he got from working at the uranium enrichment plant located in Piketon, Ohio.  Rob is survived by a loving wife, Barbara (Jachowski, class of 71) and two sons, Jim and Joseph.

Carolyn (Lyn) Raymond: Died 1997 or 1998 after routine surgery - completely unexpectedly. She was living in Maine at the time, married with two children (they were about 17 & 21 then).

Comments:
Madelle (Gott) Tolbert and I went to the funeral. The church was packed. Lyn's husband Frank had them play "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum before the service started (a favorite song of Lyn's).

Michael (Mike) Riley: Died in late 70's - possibly from leukemia. Mike attended Cornell University with Merle Ladd Silverman where they studied architecture in a small class of 60 students. Later many of the class, including Mike, moved to New York City.

Jim (Jumbo) Wise, class of 1968 passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018, in his sleep. His death was unexpected and believed to have been caused by an aneurysm. Jim had recently retired a year or so ago and was enjoying life. He was looking forward to attending this coming reunion.

Carl (Corky) Fields

Carl (Corky) Fields: Corky died in 1974; he was in school at University of Oklahoma in Norman OK following completion of 2 years of military service. He completed 9 months in-country service in Vietnam, where he was wounded in the leg. He came back to Potomac for R&R and the kind docs at the Naval Hospital (his dad retired as a Navy captain) admitted him for care of his wound.
 
Corky moved to OK following the end of his army service to be near his parents; they moved from Fausett Road to Potomac to Tulsa Oklahoma in 1967. 
 
Corky was working, while in college, as a night manager at a pizza store that was held up. The gunman shot him 6-7 times in the back. (Both he and his co-worker/roommmate were forced by the robber to lay on their stomachs during the robbery. The roommate also died.) 
 
Corky had enough strength, despite the many mortal wounds, to call police. mazingly, he also managed to lock the door to the store. He was studying journalism at the time of his death.

Phillip Francik: Died May 27, 2006 of a heart attack.

Comments:
Phil and I had been married for 35 years. We both graduated from Indiana University in 1971. Phil spent four years in the army as an officer. We were stationed in Germany for three years. We live in Illinois and have two grown children. Phil was very involved with Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster for five years. Phil was a wonderful husband, father, and person.

Tony Hugueley: Tony died Jan. 6, 2013. He was driving his restored 1956 Chevy when he ran off the road in FL and crashed into a tree. He died the following day, Jan. 6th. They think he may have suffered a heart attack at the wheel which caused him to veer off into the tree. Tony was married to Suzi Reus Hugueley (class of '68). Tony's sister, BJ Hugueley Judd also attended Churchill class of '67.

Anthony (Tony) Kercoude - Died September 21, 1968 in Viet Nam. Tony held the rank of PFC in the Marine Corps. He is listed as Casualty Number 33267.

Michael Pritchard:  died at age 66 on December 23, 2015, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, due to complications of diabetes. He practiced law (primarily public service and legal assistance) in Wisconsin, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Micronesia after graduating from Yale Law School.  He was married to Deb Hoffman ‘68 until their friendly divorce in 1976.
